Many NPS units honor the US military history from memorials in D.C. to battlefields throughout many states. For some, their military connection is obvious, and their military history is well known and covered in US history classes. The names of these sites make it obvious, such as Gettysburg National Military Park, Stones River National Battlefield, and Rosie the Riveter World War II Home Front National Historical Park.
On other sites, the military history is less obvious but no less important to the story of the United States.
