β›΅πŸŽ† Sail on the oldest ship in the Navy πŸŽ†β›΅

Hey Reader,

Happy Fourth of July week. I hope you have something fun planned. I had hoped to go to Boston for the 4th, but sadly, I didn't win the USS Constitution lottery. So, if you did get a lottery slot, I'm mega-jealous and hope you have an amazing time. Send me pictures.

Apologies if you received this email twice. I forgot to activate the giveaway button.

Instead, I will head to middle Tennessee to see how the American Chestnut Tree Demonstration Groves are doing and visit a friend in Nashville.

Back to old Ironsides, the USS Constitution is the world's oldest commissioned naval warship still afloat. Britain's HMS Victory is older but on a dry dock. Our ship wins in my mind because ours still floats and, a couple of times a year sails around the harbor in Boston.

Most of the time, getting to sail on the USS Constitution is limited to current and former Navy personnel and their families. But once a year, on July 4th, they do a public lottery, and 150 civilians get to sail around the Boston Harbor.

For the rest of the year, the USS Constitution is docked at Charleston Navy Yard as part of Boston National Historical Park and is a stop along the Freedom Trail.

Here are a few more fun facts about the USS Constitution

  • This is the only ship in the US Navy that has sunk an enemy vessel.
  • The US Navy maintains a 50,000-acre forest of white oak trees to ensure large white oak trees are available for USS Constitution repair.
  • If you have ever read the story about how much liquor was drunk on the USS Constitution, I hate to break it to you, but that story is a myth and has been debunked.

Every month, I get a ton of emails asking me to promote their giveaways. Would you be interested in getting a second email every week about these giveaways? These could include trips to National Parks, other outdoor destinations (including international), or outdoor-related giveaways. This would be completely optional and in addition to my regular Monday email.

I'm going to be sending these emails out on Thursdays. Please note that National Park Obsessed has no association or involvement with these giveaways unless stated.

Okay. That’s all for this week. Thanks for letting me email you every week. It’s amazing. Hit reply if you need anything. I’m around.

Happy Adventures,
